Today, I thought I'd dash off a quick post on some tips for local search engine marketing / local Internet marketing...
1) Keyword Research: Find Your Local Keyword Phrase
Find out if your particular city or county combined with your specific keyword phrase for your product or service is actually getting traffic on the web. Examples: Orange county wedding planning, Los Angeles VCR repair, Houston Advertising Agency, Manhattan Pet Grooming. Use any of the three keyword tools out there for your research.
2) Once you decide what your "Local Keyword Phrase" is, use it everywhere on your website.
- Metatags
- Title Tag
- Header Tags - H1, H2, H3, etc.
- Page text
- Navigation - if appropriate
- Alt image tags
- Sitemap
3) Inbound Links - when looking for places to add your site, use your Local Keyword Phrase in your anchor text.
4) Add your business to Google Maps. Use your Local Keyword Phrase in the title of your business if possible.
5) Add your business to Yahoo!'s Local Listings.
6) Advertise on high-traffic classified websites. Here are a few:
7) Look for local group sites for marketing opportunities. But don't spam! Be sure you follow the rules.
8) Try a local campaign on Google Adwords. Chen you create a new campaign, choose the option to target customers by location. You might not get a ton of traffic, but if you are targeting local who cares! The clicks might be cheap and well targeted.
I hope this whets your appetite for Local Internet Marketing. Go for it! Contact me if you have any questions.

I thought from the title you were referring to Local Internet marketing off line...
Local Internet marketing is something I'm very interested in and would like to expand in this area. I think that combining offline marketing with online marketing can be potentially very effective.
